Extreme Heat Update July 21, 2022

Overview:

WHAT: Potentially dangerous heat conditions with heat index values of 108 to 112

WHEN:  11am to 7pm Thursday

WHERE:  All of southwest and coastal MS and portions of Southeast LA.

CONFIDENCE: We are confident hot temperatures and high humidity will occur on Thursday and could quickly lead to heat illness if precautions aren’t taken.

Impacts: 

  • Heat index readings will climb above 108 degrees for multiple hours.
  • With heat index values expected near or above 108 degrees, heat illness can occur quickly. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstance.
