Heavy Rain and Coastal Flood Update: April 13, 2023

Overview:
WHAT
: MINOR COASTAL FLOODING & MARGINAL RISK of Heavy Rain

WHEN:

  • For the heavy rain threat, mainly today through the afternoon
  • For the coastal flooding threat, around the time of high tide through Friday morning. Tide levels will generally be highest this afternoon/evening

WHERE:

  • For the heavy rain threat, at this point looking to only be an issue for coastal MS and mainly just Jackson and Harrison counties
  • For the coastal flooding threat, all of coastal southeast LA and MS excluding Jackson County, Terrebonne, and Lafourche

CONFIDENCE:

  • For the heavy rain threat, low to moderate confidence due to the rain being most light, but moderate to heavy bands are still possible
  • For the coastal flood threat, moderate to high confidence in both timing and magnitude

Impacts:
Coastal Flooding
:

  • Minor coastal flooding is expected, with 1 to 2 ft of inundation possible around the time of high tide
  • Low lying coastal roads, parking lots and sidewalks may become covered in water. A few roads may become impassable in areas with the greatest impacts

Heavy Rainfall/Flash Flooding:

  • Heavy rain could lead to localized flash flooding threats
  • Areas have already seen 1-2 inches so far this morning and an additional 1 to 2 is possible

Marine Impacts

  • The Gale Warning has expired, but Small Craft Advisories remain in effect
