Heavy Rain And Tropical Update - July 2, 2021 7:30 AM
Click HERE & HERE is a quick update concerning the risk of excessive rainfall this today through much of the weekend as well as an update on Hurricane Elsa.
Changes from the previous update:
- Upgraded Elsa to a Hurricane
Overview:
WHAT: MARGINAL RISK of excessive rainfall
WHEN: Highest potential for high rainfall rates will start late this morning and remain through 7 am Sunday.
WHERE: Portions of Mississippi and SE Louisiana(shaded areas of graphics below)
CONFIDENCE: We have confidence thunderstorms will occur through at least early Sunday and that some of the storms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall. We have less confidence in areawide rain totals and where the highest rates will be located.
Impacts:
-
Showers and thunderstorms with high rainfall rates could quickly overwhelm drainage capacity, leading to flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas.
-
In areas where grounds approach total saturation, rainfall rates will not need to be as high to cause flooding or worsen already flooded areas.
The graphics in the above hyperlinks highlight the marginal risk of excessive rainfall areas for today through early Sunday.
