Heavy Rain Update - Friday June 4, 3pm CDT

Emergency Managers of Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi - Here is an update concerning the heavy rain threat this weekend and into next week. Changes from previous update:

• A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for all of SE LA except Washington Parish and is in effect from 7a Saturday through 7p Sunday.

• It should be noted the flash flood watch may need to be extended in both time and area with future updates. The rainfall forecast increased a bit across the MS Coast and Washington Parish with the afternoon forecast update, but due to lower confidence in the occurrence of heavy rainfall in those areas, the watch has not yet been expanded.

Overview:
WHAT: MARGINAL RISK to SLIGHT RISK of Heavy Rain/Flash Flooding
WHEN: Now through the first half of next week, with the heaviest rain currently expected Saturday through Sunday
WHERE: All of SE LA and S MS. The greatest threat will generally be across areas southeast Louisiana Saturday (where the flash flood watch is currently in effect). The threat could expand northward and eastward Saturday night into Sunday.

CONFIDENCE: 
We are confident that the active weather pattern will persist through the first half of next week and that there will be daily showers and storms, with the heaviest rain currently expected Saturday and Sunday. We are less confident in location-specific totals or which specific locations might experience flash flooding. And again, the flash flood watch may need to be expanded in both time and area with future updates as the situation becomes clearer.

Impacts:

• During the Saturday through Sunday timeframe, rainfall of 2-4 inches is currently forecast across much of southeast Louisiana and Coastal Mississippi with lower

• Expect ponding of water in low lying areas and some potential for localized flash flooding

• Rises on area rivers can be expected, but significant river flooding is not currently anticipated.
