Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Risk Today May 11, 2021

  • A new flash flood watch has been issued becoming effective from 1pm today through 1pm Wednesday

Overview: WHAT: FLASH FLOOD WATCH today through Wednesday

MARGINAL RISKof Severe Thunderstorms

WHEN: Flash Flood Watch from 1pm today through 1pm Wednesday.

Marginal Risk of severe thunderstorms mainly this afternoon through tonight. WHERE: The highest rainfall amounts that could cause flooding issues will mainly be found north of the immediate gulf coast of SE LA.

The entire area will have an equal risk of severe thunderstorms.

CONFIDENCE: We are confident there will be thunderstorms across these areas with higher confidence in flooding rainfall along and north

of the Interstate 10/12 corridor. Continued low confidence in severe thunderstorms.

Impacts:

    • Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts expected through Wednesday.

    • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph and hail up to 1" in diameter.

  • An isolated tornado can not be ruled out
