Important Notice From Your Power Companies
IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM YOUR POWER COMPANIES:
MISO has declared a Maximum Generation Emergency Event due to forced generation outages and below normal temperatures.
Entergy, Washington-St. Tammany Electric Cooperative, and Cleco are appealing to its members to reduce usage. All members must reduce their usage from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM (peak hours) in an effort to prevent a forced rolling outage tonight.
This is an advanced notice! If the grid becomes dangerously overloaded and at risk the next step will be an immediate power outage from one or more substations. The directive of areas affected does not come from the power companies but the supplier. The entire State of Louisiana and every electric utility company’s consumers are being asked to curtail usage to relieve the demand.
If we can not achieve the critical reductions necessary in this emergency, a forced outage would be the next step. We will not be able to tell you where until we are informed. Once the outage occurs it usually takes about an hour or two to slowly bring each area back up.
Please prepare now and help us prevent a forced outage. Below are steps you can take:
- Lower your thermostat to at least 68 degrees or lower
- Delay household chores such as laundry and running the dishwasher
- Unplug unnecessary appliances
- Close blinds and shades on windows
