AMITE—A rail crossing in the Baptist area will be closed for two days next week as Tangipahoa Parish Road and Bridge crews complete two major cross drain replacement projects on the east side of the parish.
Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said the rail crossing at North Baptist Road will be closed for improvements on Dec. 12 and 13. No traffic will be allowed through the crossing during this construction period. Signs will be posted and detours will be in effect during this two-day closure, Miller said.
In addition to the rail crossing improvements, Tangipahoa Parish Road and Bridge crews will be changing out four cross drains on two different roadways on the east side of the parish. Closures are scheduled as follows:
On Tuesday, Dec. 11, Straughan Nursery Road will be closed approximately .25 miles south of its intersection with School Road for cross drain replacement. Closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the day of construction. During that time frame, no traffic will be allowed to pass in the construction zone. Detours will be posted, Miller said.
On Wednesday, Dec. 12 and Thursday, Dec. 13, Firetower Road will be closed for approximately one mile south of I-12 for cross drain work. Crews will be changing cross drains at three separate sites on Firetower Road, which necessitates the two-day closure, Miller said. Detours will be posted for this area between Harvey Lavigne Road and Cabo Cove.
