INDEPENDENCE—Tangipahoa Parish residents will soon be able to recycle materials six days per week at the Tangipahoa Parish Landfill.

Beginning on Monday, May 18, all recycling will take place at the landfill, which is located at 57510 Hano Road west of Independence. Recycling will no longer be available at the parish’s road office in Roseland nor at Pleasant Ridge road barn east of Hammond.

Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. until noon on Saturdays. The landfill is closed to the public on Sundays.

In the past, residents could only bring recycling materials to collection sites twice a month, and at times, those dates were limited due to holidays and other weather-related closures. Now residents will be able to drop off materials upwards of 25-26 days each month instead of just two.

Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said this change will offer residents greater flexibility in their schedule to drop off recycling materials. By moving the recycling operation to the landfill, it also saves the parish a little money on transporting materials to the single collection site.

"We believe this will be a win-win for Tangipahoa Parish," Miller said.
