AMITE—To better accommodate residents in need of sandbags for the approach of Hurricane Ida, Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller announced Saturday that the north Tangi location for ready-made sandbags will be moved to the Florida Parishes Arena.

Miller said ready-made sandbags will be available until 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Arena, located at 1301 NW Central Avenue, north of Amite (right off US 51 south of Roseland).

On the south end, residents can pick up ready-made sandbags at the TPG Public Works office, located at 44512 W. Pleasant Ridge Road, east of Hammond. Distribution will continue at that location until 6:30 p.m. today.

There is a limit of 15 ready-made bags per residential structure and 30 bags per business at these locations.

Miller said the parish has also set up 13 self-serve sandbag stations at rural fire departments located throughout the parish. Residents are asked to bring their own shovel; however, they may fill as many sandbags as they need from these locations.
