Road Closures Scheduled to Install Cross Drains for Hoover Road/Sisters Road Roundabout Project
PONCHATOULA—Cross drain work inside the Hoover Road/Sisters Road roundabout infrastructure is scheduled to begin this week, and that will require a number of single-day road closures in that area over the course of the next two weeks.
Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said immediate plans include four individual cross drain structures that will be installed inside the roundabout roadbed. Each installation will require road closures at the point of construction.
“The contractor has tried to coordinate much of this work around high-traffic events that are planned at the Ponchatoula Area Recreation sports park, so that the closure causes the least amount of disruption to the area as possible,” Miller said. “While this work will create some inconveniences, our ultimate goal is to build a better route to accommodate traffic in this area.”
The first culvert installation will begin on this Friday, June 23, at 6 a.m. on Hoover Road, approximately 125 feet south of the main entrance to the PARD Park. The contractor estimates the roadway will be closed until 6 p.m. that day.
On Monday, June 26, the second cross drain will be installed on Hoover Road at a site approximately 150 feet south of the intersection with Sisters Road. That closure is also expected to run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and detours will be posted.
On Wednesday, July 5, crews will install a cross drain on Sisters Road approximately 200 feet west of the Hoover Road/Sisters Road intersection. The work is expected to begin at 6 a.m. and will be completed by 6 p.m. that day.
On Thursday, July 6, crews will work on the east side of Sisters Road at a site located approximately 300 feet east of the intersection with Hoover Road. That cross drain project is also expected to be completed between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All work is weather-permitting. Detours will be posted and no thru-traffic will be allowed in the construction zone while work is progressing.
