AMITE—Traffic will be detoured around the railroad tracks on LA 16 in Amite for approximately 1.5 days next week as crews complete asphalt-related work and repairs at the crossing, Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said today.

DOTD reports LA 16 will be closed at the railroad tracks starting at 6 a.m., on Wednesday, July 21, and continuing through approximately 6 p.m., on Thursday, July 22, for repairs.

Miller said DOTD will post detour signs during the construction period. He reminds motorists to expect delays due to the road work at that high-traffic crossing.

Miller said that in addition to the rail work, Tangipahoa Parish has much local road work planned during the week of July 19 including:

*Asphalt overlay on Brumfield, Midway, Buckles Lane, Old Genessee, Webster, Michelli, Steptoe, and Dykes;

*Asphalt patching on Dykes, Steptoe, Ruffino, Wilson, North Cooper, and Arline;

*Milling on Ruffino and North Cooper;

*Shoulder work on Wheat Crest, Phoenix Square, North Oak, Dummyline, East Hoover, Caroline, Ruth, Harvey, and Lafitte;

* Three-course treatment work on J Rowden, Voight, St. Alexander, and Arline.

Signs will be posted on the day of construction, and Miller reminds motorists to use alternate routes, where possible, due to traffic delays during the construction period.
