Severe Weather And Heavy Rainfall Update For Wednesday 4/14 - Friday 4/16/2021

What has changed since last update:

• There is a Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall today.
• There is a Marginal Risk for severe weather & excessive rainfall on Thursday.
• There is a Slight Risk for excessive rainfall on Friday.
• No major adjustments to projected precipitation totals, Flash Flood Watch remains in effect.

Overview:
 

WHAT: Marginal Risk for severe weather / Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall today (Wednesday).

            Marginal Risk for severe weather / Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall Thursday.

            Slight Risk for excessive rainfall Friday.

WHEN: Early this morning for areas west, spreading east through mid/late AM today lasting into the afternoon hours.

             Risk for Thursday is primarily in the morning hours into the early afternoon hours.

             Friday generally all day.

WHERE: All of southeastern LA and southern MS for today

               Mainly along/south of I-10/12 on Thursday.

               All areas on Friday.

CONFIDENCE:

• Moderate confidence on the potential for severe weather and excessive rainfall Today and Thursday.

• Higher confidence for excessive rainfall today in the Moderate Risk area.

• Moderate to low confidence beyond going into Friday.

Impacts:

Severe Weather Impacts:

• For today, the primary threat will be damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph can down trees and powerlines, and cause minor structural damage. Other threats include small hail and dangerous lightning.

Heavy Rain/Flooding Impacts:

• An additional 3 to 5 inches of rain is forecast across portions of southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi Today through Thursday.

• Locally higher amounts will be very possible, especially for areas highlighted in a Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall today.

• Due to saturated soils from recent heavy rain, flash flooding will be a distinct concern today especially in the Slight and Moderate Risk areas. Locally heavy and intense rainfall may lead to water covered roadways.

• Additional rises on area rivers will continue to be possible.

• RFC river forecasts will include 48 hours of precipitation today.
