Severe Weather and Heavy Rainfall Update: July 10, 2023

Overview:
WHAT: MARGINAL RISK of severe weather and excessive rainfall.

WHEN: Late morning thru the evening hours.

WHERE: All of southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi.

CONFIDENCE: There is high confidence in the widespread coverage of pop-up thunderstorms across the area today, a few of which could be locally strong and produce localized minor flooding.

Impacts:

  • Locally strong wind gusts 40 to 50 mph, with an isolated risk of a severe storm capable of producing 60mph wind gusts that may lead to damage to trees and powerlines.
  • Rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches (or more) per hour may lead to ponding across low lying areas, with flash flooding possible.
  • Underpasses may struggle to drain with forecasted hourly rainfall rates
