Severe Weather and Heavy Rainfall Update - Tuesday, May 4th 2021
We have some weather on the way. Click HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE for an update concerning the severe weather and heavy rainfall threat today and tonight.
Changes from previous update:
OVERVIEW:
WHAT: MARGINAL RISK to ENHANCED RISK of Severe Weather
MARGINAL RISK to SLIGHT RISK of Excessive Rainfall
WHEN: This afternoon through tonight
WHERE: All of southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi. The highest threat of severe weather will be north of the Interstate 10/12 corridors. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 1 AM CDT Wednesday morning for all of south Mississippi and portions of southeast Louisiana along and north of the Interstate 12 corridor.
CONFIDENCE:
-
We are confident that there will be thunderstorms across the area and that a few will be strong to severe, especially north of Interstates 10 and 12. We have less confidence in the Excessive Rainfall threat and exactly when that will occur. There is some potential that the Excessive Rainfall threat could continue into Wednesday.
Impacts:
The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:
-
Wind gusts greater than 60 mph will be possible, especially over southwest Mississippi.
-
Trees and powerlines could be damaged and lead to power outages
-
Large hail 1 inch in diameter or larger will be possible
-
In addition to the severe weather threat, rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is possible through Wednesday, with locally higher amounts possible, especially in the Flash Flood Watch area.
Stay tuned to local media.
