Severe Weather Update - For Wednesday December 23, 2020

Changes from previous update:

  • The area of greatest threat has expanded to include of Southern MS and Southeast LA.

Overview:

WHAT: MARGINAL RISK of Severe Weather

WHEN: Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night.

WHERE: All of Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. However, the higher threat for an isolated tornado will be along and south of the I-10 corridor in coastal MS and Southeast LA.

CONFIDENCE:

  • We are confident that there will be thunderstorms across the area and that a few will be strong to marginally severe.

Impacts:

The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

Damaging Winds:

  • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph will be possible

  • Trees and powerlines could be damaged and lead to isolated/scattered power outages

Tornadoes:

  • A few tornadoes will be possible
