Severe Weather Update: May 9, 2023

Overview:
WHAT:
MARGINAL RISK of Severe Weather and Excessive Rainfall
WHEN: This afternoon and evening
WHERE: All of SE LA and S MS for Excessive Rainfall and Far SW Areas for Severe
CONFIDENCE: We are confident there will be thunderstorms across the area. We have little confidence any of them will become severe.

Impacts: The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

  • Damaging Winds: Wind gusts greater than 50 mph will be possible.
  • Large Hail: Large hail up to1 inch in diameter will be possible
  • Rainfall: In addition to the severe weather threat, rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is forecast with locally higher amounts possible. This rainfall could lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage.
