Severe/Heavy Rainfall Update - May 20, 2022 8 AM

Overview:

 

WHAT: MARGINAL RISK of Severe Weather and SLIGHT RISK of flooding rainfall Sunday

WHEN: Mainly through the daylight hours.

WHERE: Marginal severe risk north of a line from Tylertown to Baton Rouge. Slight flooding risk for the entire area.

CONFIDENCE: Low confidence in severe thunderstorms. Moderate confidence in isolated areas receiving high rain rates up to 4" per hour with the strongest thunderstorms.

Impacts:

The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

  • Large Hail =  1"

  • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph will be possible

  • Trees and powerlines could be damaged and lead to isolated/small scale power outages

  • Rainfall totals could be 1 to 2 inches areawide but isolated areas could receive rainfall rates up to 4" per hour causing localized flooding of poorly drained areas
