Tropical Storm Cristobal Update - 06/05/2020

Click HERE an update concerning Tropical Depression Cristobal.

Changes From Previous Update:

- A Tropical Storm Watch has been posted for the outer-most marine zones along and west of the Mississippi River.

- There have been no changes in the forecast for land areas since last update.

Overview:

  • TD Cristobal is forecast to exit the Yucatan peninsula tonight and move northward through the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend

  • On this forecast track, the likelihood of direct impacts to SE LA and S MS continues to increase

Confidence: We have moderate confidence in the threat of heavy rainfall and minor to moderate coastal flooding. We have lower confidence in the intensity and specific wind impacts.

Impacts:

  • Several rounds of potentially heavy rainfall are possible, with some rounds well ahead of the storm.

  • At least minor coastal flooding is expected due to persistent onshore winds, with more significant coastal flooding possible dependent on Cristobal's eventual track and intensity.

  • Sustained tropical storm force winds will be possible across portions of SE LA and SW and Coastal MS. Depending on the structure of the storm as it approaches the coast, the strongest winds could occur away from Cristobal's center.
