Tropical Storm Ida

A hurricane reconnaissance aircraft measured winds of 40 miles per hour in this system, which has allowed for the tropical depression to become Tropical Storm Ida. There are no other additional changes.

Changes from the last update:

  • A slight shift in the forecast track to the east.
  • Slight increase in tropical storm and hurricane-force wind speed probabilities.

Overview:

  • Tropical Depression Nine will continue northwest with strengthening expected before entering the Southeastern Gulf late Friday or early Saturday.
  • This system is expected to continue northwest and is currently forecast to impact portions of the northern Gulf coast Sunday through early Monday.

Confidence:

  • There is moderate confidence with the forecast track and intensity of this system. 

Impacts:

  • Impacts, some significant may be possible along portions of the northern Gulf coast.

  • Depending on the eventual track path and intensity, damaging winds, storm surge, flash flooding and isolated tornadoes will all be possible with this system.
