AMITE—Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller will close all Parish Government offices except the landfill at noon on Monday, July 15, in memory of former Parish President Gordon Burgess, who will be laid to rest that afternoon.
“We are saddened by the loss of a true hero to Tangipahoa Parish and to our country,” Miller said.
Burgess, the first person elected to serve as Tangipahoa Parish President, died early Wednesday following a brief illness. Shortly after receiving word of Burgess’ passing, Miller ordered flags at all parish offices be lowered in Burgess’ memory.
Miller said that all TPG administrative, permit, public works, housing, and related offices will close at noon on Monday. The Tangipahoa Parish Landfill will operate its regular hours, Miller said.
Funeral services for Burgess are as follows:
On Sunday, July 14, Burgess will lie in state at the Tangipahoa Parish Council Chambers from 1-5 p.m. Visitation will resume Monday, July 15, at House on the Rock Church, located at 727 W. Oak Street, in Amite, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Amite Memorial Gardens in Amite.
