Heavy Rainfall Threat Monday, May 17, 2021 At 4PM CST

Changes Since Last Update:

  • A Flash Flood Watch has been issued from 4pm CT through noon Wednesday
  • There is now a Moderate Risk of Excessive Rainfall for southern portions of our area

Overview: WHAT: MODERATE RISK of Heavy Rain WHEN: Mainly this afternoon through Tuesday night, but potentially into Wednesday morning. WHERE: Moderate Risk area primarily near and south of Interstate 10 from New Orleans westward. CONFIDENCE: There is quite a bit of uncertainty regarding rain amounts and areas of highest impact. However, there is enough of a threat of heavy rain to heighten awareness.

Impacts:

  • Rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected across much of southeast Louisiana with locally higher amounts of up to double possible

  • Expect ponding of water in low lying areas and some potential for localized flash flooding

The graphics in the HERE hyperlinks highlight the threat areas today and tomorrow, as well as a total rainfall graphic for today through Wednesday afternoon. Most of the rainfall is forecast to occur prior to Tuesday evening.
