Hurricane Zeta Update - October 26, 2020 4 PM
Click HERE for an update concerning Hurricane Zeta:
Changes from the previous update:
- Tropical Storm Watches, Hurricane Watches, and Storm Surge Watches were issued. We will send out graphics of these shortly.
Overview:
- Zeta is forecast to make landfall across the Yucatan tonight and emerge into the Gulf on Tuesday and make landfall on the northern Gulf coast Wednesday.
- This system is expected to bring a multi-hazard threat to the area.
Confidence:
- If the current forecast holds, moderate impacts are expected across portions of SE LA and S MS.
- However, with some uncertainty in exactly where Zeta will make the north and north-northeast turn, moderate confidence exists in the magnitude of the impacts.
Impacts:
- Specific impacts will depend on the exact track and intensity of this system as it passes near or through the area.
- Heavy rainfall and flash flooding will be possible. Some of this rainfall could occur on Tuesday when Zeta is still located well south of the local area. The flash flood threat will be greatest wherever any bands result in a prolonged period of heavy rainfall over a specific area.
- Coastal flooding due to storm surge is expected.
- Strong winds to potentially damaging winds are expected.
- Isolated tornadoes will be possible northeast and east of the storm's eventual track.
