AMITE—Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller announced today that Parish Government has received another cycle of grant funding from Keep Louisiana Beautiful which will help the parish’s three-prong attack on litter.

Miller said the KLB grant will be used to purchase litter collection supplies that will be used by personnel and volunteers for clean-up activities.

“We are grateful for this grant from KLB which will allow us to purchase safety gloves, litter grabbers, bags, and safety vests that will be used by our litter abatement team and volunteers during our various clean up activities,” Miller said.

A key ingredient of Miller’s administration, Tangipahoa has stepped up litter abatement efforts over the last four years. Working together with the parish’s litter abatement team along with countless volunteers, the Tangi Clean Committee, and the Friends of the Manchac Greenway, Parish Government has created a three-prong attack on litter to include:
—education and awareness;
—enforcement; and
—abatement/reduction activities

Tangipahoa Parish also utilizes its “Roxy Toolbox,” an in-school litter awareness program to help increase awareness among children in the elementary grades.

“Our goals involve changing attitudes among adults and educating our youth so an entire generation can substantially decrease or even eradicate the litter problem in our community,” Miller said.

The parish’s litter program is coordinated by Ginger Tastet. Anyone who would like to help in Tangipahoa’s efforts to keep our parish clean can contact Tastet at (985) 748-3211 for volunteer dates and upcoming clean-up events.
