AMITE—Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller announced today that the parish has been approved for a $1.787 million FEMA grant to help elevate 13 homes that previously flooded in Tangipahoa Parish.

“Tangipahoa Parish is grateful for this FEMA grant,” Miller said. “These funds will help our Tangipahoa Parish Government staff in working diligently to help flood-impacted citizens safely return to their homes."

Miller said the grant represents a continuation of funding that has been authorized to elevate or buy-out 70-80 properties that were significantly impacted in recent flood events. The latest round of funding will be dedicated to properties that were pre-approved by the State’s Emergency Management Organization, GOHSEP, from applications processed through Tangipahoa Parish Government.

The parish has hired Quality Engineers to coordinate this program, which uses certified and insured elevation contractors to complete each job. Homeowners who are approved for these FEMA grants typically receive 75-90 percent of the cost to elevate their home or to complete a buy-out/acquisition. The remainder of the cost is provided by the homeowner/applicant.

Miller said Tangipahoa Parish applies for these competitive FEMA grant funds annually, based on applications submitted by homeowners throughout the year. New applications are accepted year-round, and residents can contact the Tangipahoa Parish Government office at (985) 748-3211 for more information on how to begin the application process.
