Sandbags Available Starting At Noon Today

AMITE—Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller announced Wednesday that in anticipation of a tropical weather system forecast to impact the Gulf Coast this week, sandbags will be available starting at noon today.

Miller said sandbags will be available at Tangipahoa Parish Government’s Public Works office, located at 44512 W. Pleasant Ridge Road east of Hammond and at the Roseland Public Works shop, located at 63101 Commercial Street in Roseland.

Tangipahoa Parish Government has two locations giving out already prepared sandbags. However, the lines are long. We want to help you get sandbags as soon as possible. So please note that the following locations are OPEN, with NO lines. Sand and bags are there and ready for you to access. Please bring your own shovel. Residents can visit any of the following locations to fill sandbags to bring to your home.

“We encourage anyone who’s had an issue with flash flooding or flooding following extended rain events to please come out and pick up sandbags,” Miller said.

Miller said parish leaders have been on alert, monitoring the tropical weather system heading for the Gulf of Mexico. Miller said the parish is preparing for rains related to the storm and said initial forecasts indicate Thursday afternoon is when conditions will likely begin to deteriorate ahead of the storm.

“While the weather is cooperating, let’s all check our pantries, make sure we have adequate food, water, and medicine in the event that this storm heads our way,” Miller said.
