Severe Weather Outlook For This Afternoon And Tonight, Heat Index For Today - Sunday, June 13th

Click HERE for an update concerning the severe weather threat this afternoon and tonight. Also, while not highlighted below, heat index values may reach near 108 this afternoon across much of the area. With the potential for thunderstorms to cool things off, we will not issue a Heat Advisory at this time.

Changes from previous update:

  • The threat of severe weather has increased

  • A Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be in effect until 7 PM CDT for all of south Mississippi and portions of southeast Louisiana along and north of Interstate 12.

Overview:

WHAT: MARGINAL RISK to SLIGHT RISK of Severe Weather

WHEN: Mainly this afternoon and evening

WHERE: All of south Mississippi and much of southeast Louisiana (see graphic)

CONFIDENCE:

  • We are confident that there will be thunderstorms across the area and that a few will be strong to severe. 

Impacts:

The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

  • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph will be possible

  • Large hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter will be possible
