Severe Weather Threat For This Wednesday 3/17/2021

Here is an update concerning the severe weather threat on Wednesday.

Changes from previous update:

  • The area of greatest threat region (Enhance Risk) is farther north than previous forecast

Overview:

WHAT:  SLIGHT RISK to ENHANCED RISK  of Severe Weather

WHEN: Primarily Wednesday afternoon and evening

WHERE: The highest risk is north of Interstates 10 and 12, but severe weather will be possible across all of Louisiana and Mississippi.

CONFIDENCE:

  • We are confident that there will be thunderstorms across the area and that a few will be strong to marginally severe.  We have less confidence in exactly where those strong/severe storms will occur.

Impacts:

The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

  • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph will be possible

  • Large hail of 1 inch in diameter or larger will be possible

  • A few tornadoes will be possible

  • In addition to the severe weather threat, rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is possible with locally higher amounts.
