Tropical Depression Nicholas Update - September 14th, 2021 10 PM

Changes from previous update:

No significant changes. Nicholas continues to weaken over land and is now a depression.

Overview:

Tropical Depression Nicholas is forecast to slowly push eastward into Southwest Louisiana tonight into tomorrow and continue weakening into a remnant low pressure system by Thursday and Friday as it moves into central Louisiana.

Confidence:

If the current forecast holds, we are confident that minor impacts in the form of locally heavy rainfall, coastal flooding, and an isolated tornado will be experienced across portions of SE LA and S MS.

Impacts:

Rainfall/Flash Flooding:

Rainfall of 5 to 10 inches is currently forecast. Locally higher amounts will be possible. The heaviest rainfall and highest rain rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are currently expected on tonight through Wednesday night.
Expect ponding of water in low lying areas and some potential for localized flash flooding.
A few rises on area rivers into minor flood stage is currently expected.

Coastal Flooding:

Elevated tides are likely, especially tonight and tomorrow during the high tide cycle for most of coastal Southeast Louisiana and coastal Mississippi.
1 to 2 feet of inundation will be possible along immediate coastal areas.
Expect low-lying, coastal roads to be flooded and a few may become impassable.

Tornado:

A few tornadoes will be possible in the storm’s rain bands. Tornadoes in these situations are typically short-lived, but they move very quickly.
