Tropical Weather Outlook - 8/26/2021 8 AM

Changes from the last briefing:

  • Tropical cyclone formation chance now 90%  

Overview:

  • There is a High (90%) chance of tropical cyclone development over the next 48 hours in the western Caribbean.  
  • This system is expected to move generally northwestward and could strengthen further over the next several days.
  • If it does develop, there is confidence that it will move into the southern Gulf of Mexico by late Friday night or Saturday, but beyond that point is still highly uncertain.

Confidence:

  • Since this system has not yet developed, there is low confidence in the forecast impacts and path.

Impacts:

  • This system has the potential to bring dangerous impacts from storm surge, wind, and heavy rainfall to portions of the coasts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle by Sunday and Monday.
