Weekly Weather Briefing Slides - Thursday, August 5, 2021

Click HERE to view the slides that were used for today's weekly weather briefing.

Main Takeaways:

  • Moisture and rain chances will gradually increase through next week

  • Despite increasing rain chances, rainfall totals will remain fairly low, with most places forecast to receive less than 1 inch of rain in the next 7 days

  • The tropics are becoming more active, but the two disturbances currently being monitored pose no threat to the Gulf at this time

As a quick reminder, we did make the software changes today that will allow certain severe thunderstorm warnings to trigger cell phone wireless emergency alerts. In the rare event we expect a thunderstorm to produce 80 mph winds or baseball-sized hail, we will add a "destructive" tag to the warning, which will activate WEA. For more information, see the email Lauren sent about this change earlier today.

The recorded briefing will be added to our partner YouTube playlist in the next 20-30 minutes. You can access the playlist here: Partner Briefings - YouTube
