All Clear And Ongoing Impacts Briefing May 21, 2021

There is no longer a threat for impactful heavy rainfall or severe weather.

Click HERE for an update concerning lingering coastal flooding, river flooding, and wind impacts today. Changes from previous update:

  • Flash Flood Watch has expired; Heavy Rain threat is diminished

  • No major changes to the MEDIUM (60%) chance of tropical cyclone development over the next 5 days in the western Gulf.

  • Western St. Tammany Parish has been upgraded from Coastal Flood Advisory to a Coastal Flood Warning

  • Coastal Flood Warning has been extended until 4PM Saturday CT

Overview:

WHAT: Minor to Moderate Coastal Flooding
            Strong Winds

WHEN:  Tonight overnight into tomorrow for coastal flooding.

This afternoon and evening for strong winds WHERE: Along east and south facing shores of the coastal flooding. Across coastal parishes and counties for the strong winds. CONFIDENCE: 

  • We are confident that coastal flooding will persist through tomorrow morning. We are confident that strong gusty winds will continue through the early evening.

Impacts:

  • Inundation of 1 to 3 feet above ground level on east and south facing shores in areas where coastal flood warnings are in effect.

  • Low lying coastal roads and non-elevated structures could be flooded due to the coastal flooding.
  • East-Southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph.
  • Small branches could be torn loose and cause power outages and unsecured objects could be blown around.
