Heavy Rain Update - July 12, 2021 7AM

Overview:

WHAT: MARGINAL RISK to SLIGHT RISK of Heavy Rain

WHEN:  Today through tonight. Highest threat will with stronger storms through the early evening hours today.

WHERE:  Marginal risk of flooding rainfall extends across all of coastal MS, Southeast LA, and portions of SW MS. Slight risk of flooding rainfall is confined to northern portions of Amite, Pike, and Walthall Counties.

CONFIDENCE:

  • We are confident that there will be thunderstorms across the area and that a few will produce high rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour.  We are less confident in exactly where these high rainfall rates will occur.

Impacts:

  • Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be possible with a few storms through early this evening. If storms train over the same area, rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches could be possible.

  • Street flooding may occur in low lying and poorly drained areas.

  • A few rivers are in minor flood stage, and any additional rain will feed into these rivers and extend the period of flooding. Significant additional rises into moderate or major flood stage are not currently anticipated.
