Tangipahoa Parish Participating In The Waze For Cities Program

AMITE—Parish President Robby Miller announced today that Tangipahoa Parish will be utilizing two-way technology to help residents better navigate local roadways in emergency situations.

Miller said Tangipahoa Parish will be participating in the Waze for Cities program to help motorists better navigate roadways in emergency situations. 

“The Waze for Cities (W4C) program provides an incredible opportunity for citizens to work with local government to crowdsource information on traffic issues in our communities,” Miller said.

The program represents an “ongoing partnership between the Waze app and various government agencies to share publicly available data.” By doing so, the program improves the quality of information obtained from the app and helps inform both motorists and local leaders of infrastructure and day-to-day operational needs, Miller said.

Miller said the app will give motorists peace of mind and provide them the opportunity to contribute information on road hazards and closures they find along the route.

“The Waze app allows for faster and more accurate closure data than can be frequently found online or on your car’s navigation system,” Miller said, adding that it can be a vital tool for motorists in emergency situations, such as during evacuations.

Miller said Parish Government will be sharing additional information on how residents can participate in the Waze for Cities program on the TPG website, at www.Tangipahoa.org, and on the parish’s social media channels.
