Tropical Storm Fred Update - August 11, 2021

Changes from the previous update:

  • No major changes

Overview:

  • Tropical Storm Fred is expected to continue moving west-northwest, impacting Hispaniola through early Thursday morning.
  • The system is expected to continue west-northwest and brush the northern coastline of Cuba through the late week.
  • Beyond late week into the upcoming weekend, the system is expected to turn more towards the northwest impacting the Florida Keys, and could then enter the southeastern Gulf of Mexico.

Confidence:

  • There is lower than normal confidence in the track and intensity forecast, especially beyond Friday.

Potential Impacts:

  • This system poses no immediate threat to the local area, and most current model guidance suggests it should remain east of the local area.

  • However, given higher than normal uncertainty in the extended forecast, it should continue to be monitored.
