Press Release - Judge approves motion for mutual consent agreement in Tangipahoa desegregation case

NEW ORLEANS—After almost 55 years, the Tangipahoa Parish School System in cooperation with plaintiff’s negotiation counsel reached a judicially-approved mutual agreement in the longstanding Joyce Marie Moore federal desegregation case.

On Tuesday, U.S. Federal District Court Judge Ivan Lemelle approved the mutual consent agreement. He has asked for slight modifications which will be submitted to the court within the next 30 days.

Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent Melissa Stilley called the ruling a “historic” opportunity and “a win for all children in Tangipahoa Parish. “

HAMMOND—A portion of Sisters Road will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 12, as crews change out a cross drain.

Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said crews will close a portion of the roadway between S. Hoover and Pleasant Ridge Extension to change out a cross drain, weather permitting.

The closure will be posted, and motorists will need to use alternate routes between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day.
