AMITE---Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller requested that all flags be lowered this week in memory of longtime Amite Mayor Buddy Bel, who died Sunday afternoon.

Bel was serving in the final year of his second term as Mayor at the time of his death. He previously served on the Amite Town Council and the Tangipahoa Parish School Board. He was also a United States veteran.

“Buddy Bel spent much of his life in service to the people of Tangipahoa Parish. He was elected to many offices over his career, including School Board, city council, and most recently as Mayor of Amite. Regardless of the role in which he was elected to serve, Buddy went out of his way to help people. There is no doubt that he will be remembered for the kindness he showed over a lifetime of selfless service to others," Miller said.

Miller asked that flags remain at half-mast until after funeral services for Bel this Friday in Amite.
